…I know very little of Betsy DeVos, Trumps nominee for Secretary of Education (more on why in a bit).
But the NEA certainly doesn’t like her:
NEA urges teachers, students to protest Trump at schools – Washington Examiner
The National Education Association is urging students and teachers to skip school Thursday to protest the presidency of Donald Trump at school.
Promoting a “National Day of Action” on Thursday, the NEA said, “On Thursday, January 19, the day before Donald Trump assumes the presidency, thousands of students, parents, educators and community members from across the nation will hold rallies in front of school buildings to inclusively stand up for all students.”
Ever think you’d see the day where the NEA would organize a protest against an incoming President and try to involve the students? Me neither.
Then they dirty it up with more of the mindless Trump droning “Racist, Sexist, Homophobic” nonsense:
“The rhetoric and ideology of Trump and Secretary of Education nominee Betsy DeVos are deeply troubling. Trump’s own words, and the stances his nominees have taken, suggest that his administration will target immigrants, people of color, women, the LGBTQ community, American Muslims, educators, working families, the labor movement, and others in ways that further divide America and fan resentment,” it warned.
That paragraph is just gross. “Targeting” implies “violence” when this is nothing of the sort. And targeting “people of color”, “women” and “LGBTQ”… these are lies wrapped in Liberal hysteria. I realize that the Fake News Media is going to slander and libel any outsider that gets near the White House, but aren’t educators supposed to be teaching our children skills like reading comprehension, critical thinking and history? As I’ve mentioned before, Trump was standing up for the LGBTQ when Bill Clinton was signing the Defense of Marriage act. Trump has won multiple awards from the black community for his work. But he’s somehow “targeting” them? The funny thing is that’s only half the list. He’s also “targeting” educators, working families, the labor movement and American Muslims. That’s about 99% of the population.
Teachers, I’m going to give you some genuine, honest perspective. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I know very little about Betsy DeVos. I don’t know if she’s great for education or if she’s going to send us back to the Dark Ages. There’s a reason I don’t know. It’s because I don’t care. Our country is so fucked up because of the guy that most of you voted for twice in the past eight years and consequently, we have so many country-destroying problems to fix that my concern about the new Edu Sec of an already fucked up educational system is slightly above the weather forecast tomorrow and slightly below whether I’m going to get laid this weekend. Take a guess how the rest of America feels? They don’t care because there are much, much bigger fish to fry.
So stop with the politics. Stop pushing your politics on our kids. Stop throwing tantrums. Stop thinking that the very fate of civilization rests on your shoulders every morning as you step into your classroom. It doesn’t. And all this temper tantrum does is further sour parents on the public school system and will only result in more students leaving it or never being put into the public school system in the first place. We’re slowly but surely gaining an actual market economy for K through 12 education in this country and your competitors are eating your lunch because as a whole, you’re not doing a good job.
Your salary is paid by the taxpayers. Despite the fact that we don’t get a seat at the table come negotiation time, we’re still you’re boss. No manager wants to hear a shitty employee complain that it’s somebody else’s fault that he sucks at his job.
But that’s not even the worst of it. This temper tantrum you’re throwing is yet another message to reluctant Trump voters that they made the right decision. And they won’t be conflicted four years from now. If you want eight years of Trump and falling wages because parents are taking advantage of vouchers en masse to get their kids out of their lousy public school where the teachers can’t stop pushing their politics on the kids, then by all means keep doing what you’re doing.
